Platignum - The History
YOUR handwriting says a lot about you – and so does the pen you hold.
That’s why over a century’s experience as pen pioneers has led us to create this distinctive range of quality pens.
From the self-filling ranges we manufactured in 1919, we invented the world’s first replacement nib, created the retractable ball-point in 1950 and introduced the first cartridge system.
We’ve been writing the history of the pen for generations and are continuing to innovate for the future.
1919: Platignum Pen. Co. changes the world of pens with the self-filling, gold plated nib fountain pen
1925: A revolution in pen design - the world's first replacement nib
1939-1945: Platignum supports the world effort commissioned by the MOD to create "spy" pens concealing maps and compasses
1950: Another breakthrough - the company invents the retractable ball point
1962: The seminal Good Handwriting pen is introduced
1965-1998: Platignum introduces the ink cartridge to the UK and becomes synonymous with education for over 30 years
1992-2005: Platignum produces a collection of calligraphy sets to complements its traditional writing range.
2007: Platignum's new signature style is born
