Namiki Emperor – Blooming Flowers in Profusion L.E. 99

The Namiki Emperor – Blooming Flowers in Profusion is a breathtaking limited edition fountain pen that celebrates the richness of nature and the beauty of individuality through masterful Japanese craftsmanship.

Namiki Emperor – Blooming Flowers in Profusion - Concept & Inspiration:

This pen is inspired by the Japanese idiom 百花繚乱 (Hyakka Ryōran), meaning “a profusion of flowers in bloom.” It symbolizes a flourishing of culture, diversity, and harmony. The design features 11 varieties of seasonal flowers from Japan, each rendered using distinct Maki-e techniques to highlight its unique character:

  • Spring: Cherry Blossom, Violet, Wisteria

  • Summer: Clematis, Sweet Lily, Hydrangea

  • Autumn: Dianthus, Bellflower, Chrysanthemum

  • Winter: Plum Blossom, Winter Peony

Each flower represents not only a season, but also a facet of human expression and coexistence.

Namiki Emperor – Blooming Flowers in Profusion - Artistic Techniques:

Crafted by renowned KOKKOKAI artisan Yutaka Sato, the pen showcases a symphony of traditional Japanese techniques:

  • Hira Maki-e: flat, polished lacquer

  • Taka Maki-e: raised relief for depth

  • Togidashi Maki-e: layered lacquer polished to reveal unified imagery

  • Raden: inlaid mother-of-pearl

  • Rankaku: quail eggshell for delicate texture

The background, symbolizing Earth and Water, is created using gold, silver, and raden powders, enhancing the vibrancy of the floral motifs.
